Massachusetts foster parents can often adopt

Some Massachusetts couples elect not to have their own biological children or perhaps, are unable to. Despite all the reproductive technologies available today, sometimes parenthood arrives via adoption. Other couples may decide that fostering a child is a good fit for their family.

There are a great number of children from all backgrounds in foster care that would jump at the chance to become part of a loving and nurturing family. After going through a thorough background check and becoming licensed by the state, foster parents commit to providing a safe environment and making a positive difference in a child's life. Single adults, empty-nesters and divorced individuals all may qualify as foster parents if they meet the other criteria set by the state.

In many cases, the children in foster care are there for just a short time, and reunification with their biological parents is the primary goal. However, others languish in the system for years, often bouncing from home to home in search of a stable, permanent placement in a good home.

It's cases like these where foster parents sometimes decide to take the next step and adopt the child after a strong bond develops between them. A family law attorney can be an invaluable resource when it comes to determining who will be awarded permanent child custody through a legal adoption.

An attorney can act as liaison between the foster parents and the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families, making sure that in cases of prospective adoptions, the parental rights of the biological parents have been formally terminated to eliminate unpleasant surprises that can further tear down a child's fragile ego.
